On top of the Geography of Pattaya town
Pattaya, positioned off the Gulf of Thailand, is around 145 km south of the city of Bangkok, enclosed by Bang Lamung District.
The city of Pattaya is a exceptional municipal zone which covers the total tambon Nong Prue (Nongprue) and Na Kluea (Naklua) and sections of Huai Yai and Nong Pla Lai. Bang Lamung township that forms the northern border of Pattaya covers pieces of the tambon Bang Lamung (Banglamung), Nong Pla Lai and Takhian Tia. Bang Sali is on the southern border of Pattaya.
“Greater Pattaya” encompasses most of the shoreline of Banglamung (one of the 11 areas that encompass Chonburi Province). It is broken down into a larger northern part which covers the places to the east of Naklua Beach (the all northern beach) and Pattaya Beach (the main beach) and the Buddha Hill headland (immediately south of Pattaya Beach), and a smaller southern portion over the location to the east of Jomtien Beach (which lies straight south of Buddha Hill) together with Dongtan Beach. One particular times past on PattayaSourced from: Pattaya

What happens is the primary sweep of that bay area is split into two principal beachfronts. Pattaya Beach is parallel to city centre, and is finally, the main destination for bathers and loungers with the area from Central Road (Pattaya Klang) south to the harbor forming portion of the core of the town’s restaurants, motorcycle hire, and night attractions.
Jomtien Beach in the southern portion of the bay area is broken down coming from Pattaya beach by the promontry of Pratumnak Hill, just south of the town, and is mainly a residential area with luxury developments, beachside hotels, bungalow complexes, condominiums and restaurants. It offers of watersport actions such as jet skis, parasailing and little sail boat hire. A put forth 91-floor Ocean One Tower with an over-all elevation of 367 meters, would be the tallest constructing in Thailand and one of the tallest housing structures in the world.. About the record associated with Pattaya
Pattaya’s title developed from the march of Phraya Tak (later King Taksin) and his army out of Ayutthaya to Chanthaburi. This took location earlier than the break of the past capital to the Burmese invaders in 1767.
When his soldiers got at the vicinity of what’s now Pattaya, he stumbled upon the troops of Nai Klom, who attempted to intercept him. When the two leaders met in person, Nai Klom was awed by Phraya Tak’s dignified manner and his army’s strict discipline. He then surrendered not having a struggle. The location the two armies confronted each other was labeled Thap Phraya, which means the Military of the Phraya. This was later changed to Phatthaya, which happens to mean the wind blowing from the southwest to the northeast at the beginning of the rainy season. In these days the city is formally know as Pattaya.
For centuries, Pattaya was a tiny fishing neighborhood. But a alter happened on April 26, 1961, when the principal group of about 100 American servicemen who were fighting down in the Vietnam War got in Pattaya for relaxation. Coming from this beginning, Pattaya grew to becomte a popular seaside resort which now allure hundreds of thousands of visitors. Fishermen’s huts along the beach were replaced by resort hotel and shopping malls. Fishing boats were adapted to turn into holiday boats.

Over the past six years I’ve stayed in Udon Thani city for a total of well over 100 days. Those days have been spread over about 20 trips to the Land of Smiles and so I like to think I know a little about the city, its people and the whole shebang. It is a city in need of investment and promotion, I thought I’d invest a little of my time in trying to promote it.
For those of you not in the know, first a little bit of Udon Thani bio.
Udon Thani is the capital of Udon Thani province in the north east ( Isaan region) of Thailand. Situated 560 km from Bangkok, travelling to the city is made easy by regular air, train and bus routes. Udon is a transport center that connects itself to all the major cities in Thailand. The city’s population is about 143,000 with expats contributing an estimated 2,500 plus to the figure.
The province itself is recognized as one of the poorer areas in Thailand with agriculture (mainly rice and sugar cane) being its main industry alongside its transport hub.The city itself is never going to creep up behind you twist your arm and take you on a rollercoaster ride, you need to poke it and prod it, shake it to life and then you will be pleasantly surprised by what it has to offer.
Lets start by checking into a hotel, the President Hotel on Amphoe Road is new, tidy, reasonably priced and only ten minutes drive from Udon Thani airport. The rooms are adequately furnished, cleaned each day and come with satellite TV and a good size bathroom. The balcony is an added bonus.
The 900 baht room fee includes breakfast which is not too bad by Thai standards. Omelette, fried eggs, toast and cereals are freely available along with Thai dishes that most of us would only consider eating after midday.
The hotel has a large car parking area and pack your swimwear because the swimming pool pictured right offers the delights of a cooling afternoon dip although the seating area is over exposed to the afternoon sun.
For a stay that is a little more upmarket try the Ban Chiang Hotel (approx. 1200 baht) on Mookmontri Rd and for those of you on a tighter budget the Top Mansion situated on Sampantamit Road has rooms in the 400 – 500 baht range.
Where do we start. The first McDonald’s outlet has just opened in Udon, if that hasn’t put you off then read on.
Thai and International cuisine exist in abundance in the city. Japanese, Cantonese and European eateries add to the mix of Thai and Lao restaurants and the regions very own unique Isaan food. Stepping off the Pattaya, Phuket and Phi Phi carousel of Thailand tourism and into this provincial city will still offer you a wide range of tasty choices and your restaurant bill will be a lot lighter.
A gentle easy paced way of life is how I would best describe Udon Thani and it is a place which for me offers a welcome break from the ‘in your face’ make up of the resorts featured in Thailand holiday brochures. If you’re looking for daytime attractions and lots of scenic photographic sessions then you best not board your plane, train or bus. Disappointing Udon Thani has very little in the way of sightseeing opportunities in the city itself although if you want shopping and nightlife then it has a lot to offer.
Shopping during the day leads most people to the Chareonsri Complex or Compact as it’s known to the locals. The five storey complex hosts a multiplex cinema, ten pin bowling, fast food outlets, MK and Steak Sizzler restaurants and umpteen fashion boutiques.
The Compact also has money exchanges, ATM’s, a Tops Supermarket, Boots Pharmacy, Robinson’s Department Store, KFC, Pizza Hut and numerous other retail stores. The air conditioned mall is a welcome release from Udon’s regular high temperatures and in a city that lacks any real daylight entertainment the Chareonsri Complex is where anyone in the know heads to.
For those who are determined to make use of their camera the Nong Prajak Park is located in the city centre and is an ideal picnic spot with its landscaped gardens surrounding a lake. The city and its neighbouring area has many temples and the pick of these are Wat Thipphayaratnimit, Wat Phothisomphon and Wat Matchimawat.
Travelling further afield you can visit Udon Thani Province’s most famous tourist spot which dates back thousands of years, the Ban Chiang Bronze Age archaeological site. Ban Chiang has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1992 and is located about 35 kilometres east of the city. The sights of Udon are hardly white knuckle rollercoaster rides but there is plenty of history and culture to view in and around Udon Thani city.
Stepping off the train station platform and into the adjoining Centrepoint Night Market may not be a viable option for the baggage laden traveller but after checking into your hotel backtracking to the market would be an excellent idea. You can shop until you drop and when you decide it’s time to rest, relax at one of the many small restaurants inside this busy, bustling bazaar.
For a more adventurous evening there are many lively bars around and within easy walking distance of the Centrepoint. The night scene has girls galore but the price of an Udon bar girl will come at a price more akin to Bangkok than Pattaya but the beer prices a little cheaper.
Udon Thani is a little bare on day excursions, big on shopping and markets plus the night scene is more than a match for many of Thailand’s provincial cities. Add in the high quality of hotels and the whole mix makes Udon Thani worth a visit for a few days at least. If you are travelling to the Isaan region of Thailand you may have to shake it and wake it but Udon Thani offers an interesting viewpoint on the way of life in a routine Thai city and offers a fairly lively alternative to the more commercialised Thai resorts.
Located a short distance away from the city centre of Thailand’s popular beach resort, Pattaya, Best Western Bella Villa Cabana offers comfortable accommodation with a relaxing atmosphere and private beach.
Decorated in a contemporary Thai style it offers style and comfort with its modern amenities that include free Wi-Fi internet access and room service. For your convenience rooms are also provided with a microwave and cutlery.
Unwind by taking a dip in the large freeform swimming pool that faces the sea or refresh yourself with a session at their fitness centre and sauna. It also has a cocktail lounge and a restaurant that features all-day dining serving mouth-watering Thai and international cuisine.
Best Western Bella Villa Cabana is situated near two international golf courses (Burapha Golf Club and Laem Chabang International Golf Course), several shopping outlets and eateries. Other leisure activities such as diving and go-karting are also available in the area.
The hotel also provides a free 2-way shuttle bus service from the hotel to Pattaya Centre everyday.

Two Romanian citizens have been arrested at a popular hotel in Pattaya in relation to a credit card skimming and duplication scam recently.
Pattaya, 5th of November 2009 (PDN): Allegedly two Romanian born Tourists have been arrested in Pattaya at the “DC Hill Hotel” whilst in possession of two stolen ATM cards and some high tech skimming equipment, believed to have been used to read credit and bank account numbers from ATMs across Pattaya for use in a card duplication scam.

A rather surprising announcement was made today in the golf world, and I’m not talking about more pinup babes popping up in a certain golfer’s private life.
I’m talking about the PGA Tour’s announcement that they’ve agreed to a seven-year deal to bring an event to Malaysia. Though tournament dates have not been announced, the event will be staged at The Mines Golf Club outside Kuala Lumpur, a course I haven’t seen first-hand but have been told nothing but tremendous things about.
Malaysia is a country that has gotten full-bore behind its golf product, which is more developed than many over in our hemisphere realize. There are over 200 golf courses in Malaysia cut often through dense jungle with swinging monkeys, flying squirrels and plenty of other bizarre, prehistoric sounds coming from the bush. Some of their older golf clubs still use a primitive-looking, weedy “cow grass” that is worth at least a walk on, even if you don’t play 18 holes on it.
While I’d probably opt for golf in Thailand over Malaysia for a repeat vacation, I think the golf courses like Saujana Golf Club and Tiara Golf Club are as good, if not more exotic than the Thai courses I saw around Bangkok, Pattaya and Hua Hin.
A year ago today i was actually in Malaysia, participating in a very popular amateur golf event, the World Amateur Inter-Team Golf Championship. Golfers from many countries including South Africa, Australia and Indonesia among many others take part every year, which is staged on some of the country’s top golf courses.
Malaysia isn’t a very strong tourist destination for Americans. When i was there, I was told more Americans visited before September 11th, 2001, but the numbers have been well down ever since. I’m guessing the Malaysian government is hoping the new PGA Tour stop will bring over more and more American golfers and media coverage. Last year, Anthony Kim played in the European Tour’s Malaysian Open, co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours, and was one of the few recognizable North American big names to compete. With a PGA Tour brand behind the new event and a $6 million purse to go with it, organizers are expecting some of the world’s top ten to be there.
One hurdle to climb will be where its placed on the schedule and how many players will be willing to fit it in their plans. At first glance, it looks like the only place it could go is sometime late in the season, November or December. Also, the event will be staged halfway around the world and Americans are quite spoiled when it comes to live sports (just look at the Sydney Olympics ratings). I’m not sure how much the needle is going to move watching tape-delayed golf action, especially if Tiger Woods doesn’t make it over there.
But in any case, the seven-year deal is a great step for Malaysia to brand its golf to the North American audience, and the PGA Tour can breathe a little easier knowing there are still buyers out there willing to pony up for an event - even if it is 12 time zones away.

I was in Pattaya last night with the remote control in my hands flicking rapidly through the channels when I stopped and went back to the one that had passed by in the blink of an eye — I’d seen something very interesting.
It was His Majesty King Bhumibol being pushed in a wheelchair, obviously at the hospital. Adoring Thais were seen everywhere in the background of the news footage.
I watched the news report to its conclusion. It was good to see His Majesty up and around, though the 81 year old monarch looked very weak after a month in the hospital, with a pillow propped behind his head in the wheelchair.
Hopefully his recovery will continue.
Here is the news report from today’s Bangkok Post:
King appears in public
Well-wishers at hospital given welcome surprise* Published: 24/10/2009 at 12:00 AM
* Newspaper section: NewsHis Majesty the King has appeared in public for the first time after spending more than a month in hospital being treated for inflammation of his lungs.
Hundreds of well-wishers crowding Siriraj Hospital’s compound to check for news updates were given a welcome surprise when they saw the King come down from his hospital ward on the 16th floor yesterday afternoon.
Sitting on a padded electric wheelchair, His Majesty was accompanied by doctors, nurses and security officers.
“Long Live the King,” cheered the people as the King travelled past lines of well-wishers to pay homage to the statue of King Rama V, his grandfather.
Yesterday was Chulalongkorn Memorial Day. The nation commemorated the day when King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) passed away 99 years ago.
Well-wishers, when seeing His Majesty, kneeled to pay their respects. Many were tearful while others yelled out loudly to wish the King a long life.
The King’s unannounced public appearance helped ease the concerns among many people about his health.
“My worries have now disappeared after living with rumours for weeks,” said Prapai Bunsawan, 79.
Like other people who signed a visitors’ book for the King, Ms Prapai urged politicians to stop arguing. Good deeds and a peaceful society would keep the King happy, she said.
His Majesty, who wore a blue shirt, was looking cheerful yesterday. He talked with doctors occasionally as cardiologist Pradit Panjawinin wheeled him round.
Dr Pradit is a director for Her Majesty the Queen’s Cardiac Centre at Siriraj Hospital.
The King also went to pay homage to a statue of Prince Mahidol of Songkhla, his father, and a portrait of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra Boromrajajonani, his mother. He also saw the exhibition of his late mother, held to celebrate the 109th anniversary of her birth on Oct 21, before moving on for a sightseeing tour around many areas of the hospital compound.

When you are looking for a Pattaya Meetings
Very small, new resort located in Banglamung, which is a bit outside Pattaya, but still listed as Pattaya on the hotel sites, which is where I found about this place.
Nice corner room, with breakfast included for 1500B or 1200B, I can’t recall.
Saltwater swimming pool. There’s also a small weight room, which can be used for free, and a steam room that costs extra.
Poolside pool table.
A free shuttle tuk-tuk to Pattaya (one way) is available. A friendly, cozy place that seemed to appeal to families, couples and seniors. Easy to strike up conversations with other guests if you’re the gregarious sort, kind of an inn or B&B vibe to the place.
My only complaint that while the breakfast was pretty good, we ordered some Thai food for dinner that was simply OK, and a tad expensive for what it was. Didn’t try the farang food.
I think I prefer someplace closer to town, but for folks who mainly want a relaxing, quiet place to chill out by the pool, it fits the bill.

A wanted Bahraini national has been arrested hiding in a Pattaya Hotel on the charge of prostitution trafficking. The man has been trafficking Thai women usually from North East of Thailand (Ihsan), to Bahrain under false pretences eventually forcing them to prostitute themselves against their will.
Police Major General Nonwanatkirt Klinphong, an investigator from the Human Trade Division of Thailand along with fellow officers arrested Mr Mohamed Ebrahim Yasuf Naser Isa, age 27, of Bahraini nationality. Mr Mohamed Ebrahim Yasuf Naser Isa was arrested in room 404 of the Marine Plaza Hotel, South Pattaya. Police had an international warrant in their possession allowing them to enter the room without permission.
Mr Mohamed Ebrahim Yasuf Naser Isa is believed to be part of a gang of overseas prostitution traffickers with known members hiding in both Bahrain and Thailand. The gang is accused of deceiving Thai girls into travelling to Bahrain, with the intention of working as massage girls in Bahraini hotels. Once they arrive in Bahrain, they are taken away by the gang and forced into prostituting themselves on the streets. If the girls refuse they are then beaten until they agree to comply.
Two Thai girls involved with the gang for sometime have managed to escape the clutches of the gang, going to the Thai Embassy in Bahrain to declare their situations. The Bahraini and Thai officials have worked closely in co-operation, already arresting several of the gang members hiding in Bahrain. The Bahrain Embassy in Thailand helped to inform local authorities of the existence of Mr Mohamed Ebrahim Yasuf Naser Isa making it easy for police to find and arrest him. Thai Human Trade Division officers are aware of other Bahraini nationals hiding in Pattaya that are affiliated with the gang, but as yet however they have not been able to track them down.Similar post: Pattaya Beach Site
